No picture is worth a disturbed animal
These are the rules we work by on every tour. They apply to us and to everyone who comes out with us.
What we never do
- No baiting. We do not put out food to attract an animal or to hold it in place.
- No playback. We do not use recorded calls or song to draw birds in.
- No nest disturbance. We keep away from nests, dens and young, and we do not share their locations.
How we behave in the field
- The animal sets the distance. If it stops feeding, stares, changes direction or moves off because of us, we are too close and we back away.
- The guide’s instructions on distance and behaviour are mandatory.
- Small groups, limited time. Group size and time on a subject may be limited to reduce disturbance.
- Extra care in winter and in the breeding season, when animals have the least energy to spare.
- We leave places as we found them.
What this means for your pictures
Wildlife is unpredictable and we do not guarantee sightings. We plan around peak seasons and use patience and fieldcraft to put you in the right place. An animal that is behaving naturally makes a better photograph than one that is watching you.
People, too
